Potential of basic substances in plant protection to reduce Podosphaera pannosa in cut roses

Abstract Alternative strategies in plant protection are required due to political and environmental conditions. Basic substances can potentially benefit for modern conventional organic horticulture. In the case of ornamentals, little is known about effect basic within canopy reduce foliar diseases. Podosphaera pannosa one most severe diseases production cut roses. this study, different cultivars roses were sprayed weekly with an extract Equisetum arvense (4 g dried material/L), aqueous solution hydrogen peroxide (10 g/L) a commercial product containing potassium carbonate (VitiSan, Biofa GmbH, Münsingen, Germany) during two experimental trials. As result, symptoms infected leaf area could be reduced significantly as experiments progressed. Furthermore, no negative effects such reduction growth or number marketable flowers observed.
